Traditional Massage Therapy
Traditional Massage Therapy is an ancient practice that has been an integral part of many cultures around the world for centuries. Swedish techniques are at the heart of traditional massage, promoting proper muscular tone and circulation. In recent years, additional approaches have been blended with swedish techniqes to create massage therapy as we know it today. Leslie Horwood, RMT tailors all Traditional Massage Therapy sessions to each clients specific needs. She may utilize Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Release, Isolytic techniques, Muscle Energy technique, Joint Mobilizations, Lymphatic drainage and more to find the right approach for you.
Prenatal and Post Partum
The child-bearing year is unlike any other time in an expectant mothers life. There are many physiological changes that occur within a mothers body throughout her 40 weeks of pregnancy. Often these changes lead to varying physical discomforts and challenges. Prenatal Massage Therapy at Cadence Wellness focuses on helping to ease the transitions of pregnancy, aiming to reduce or eliminate discomfort from pregnancy-related ailments such as back pain, rib pain and shortness of breath, frequent and urgent urination, constipation, swelling (edema), ligamentous referral pain, nerve impingement (carpal tunnel, sciatica, pseudo-sciatica), calf cramps, mood changes, and anxiety. In addition to treating discomfort, Leslie Horwood, RMT is passionate about providing education and remedial exercises to prepare expectant mothers for the changes their bodies will continually undergo during pregnancy, and readying them for labour and birth. Cadence Wellness provides a pregnancy cushion system that allows mothers-to-be to lay safely and comfortably in a face- down (prone) position without any risk to the mother or fetus.
Post Partum Massage Therapy treatments focus on helping new mothers recover from pregnancy and birth, and adjust to the new challenges they face in their bodies and their daily lives. Common conditions treated are pelvic floor instability, pelvic misalignment, mastitis, C-section scaring, shoulder/arm/wrist pain aggravated by changes to posture (especially during breast feeding), mood changes and anxiety, fatigue and sleep conditions.

Myofascial Release
Fascia is an integrative connective tissue that unites the tip of our heads with the bottom of our toes. It is our organ of form; encompassing, surrounding, and penetrating each and every tissue in our body. Fascia is present from the most superficial to the deepest components of our bodies, including our skin, muscles (groups, individual muscles, and individual muscle fibers), bones, organs(viscera), joints, tendon and nerve sheaths. Fascia is comprised of dense collagen fibers, stretchy and recoiling elastin fibers, and a gelatinous ground substance. The function of fascia is to provide structural support and cellular transport, nutrition and hydration.
When fascia experiences trauma (due to accidents, overuse, poor posture, etc) an increase in collagen fibers is produced during the healing process. These collagen fibers shorten and "stick" together, forming adhesions that reduce the mobility and fluidity of fascia. This often results in dysfunctional fascial tissue, pain, and holding patterns within the body. Most soft tissue technique are ineffective for treating fascial dysfunction, due to the complex 3-Dimensional make-up of fascial tissue. Myofascial Release addresses fascial restrictions in all levels and directions throughout our bodies, releasing holding and compensatory patterns and working to restore optimal health and balance to this incredible tissue and the body as a whole.
Leslie Horwood, RMT is passionate about the fascial body and incorporates fascial treatment into every appointment.

Craniosacral Therapy
Every structure in our bodies has a silent, inherent movement, even when we are still and at rest. This subtle movement is referred to as motility. Craniosacral Therapy uses sensitive palpation skills to identify dis-ease and dysfunction in the motility and mobility of a structure. Craniosacral Therapy is a light handed, non-invasive technique that is most commonly applied to the cranium (head), the cranial membranes, the spinal cord, its surrounding dura, the sacrum, and the cerebral spinal fluid that lines the central nervous system. Through gentle Craniosacral Therapy, deeper and profound affects can been seen throughout the rest of the body systems. A healthy nervous system is a fundamental step towards a healthy body.
Because every tissue in our body has its own motility pattern, and because our form is connected extensively through fascia, Craniosacral Therapy can be an effective treatment tool for other areas of the body. Leslie Horwood, RMT often uses Craniosacral Therapy as part of her integrative approach to healing, finding this technique particularly helpful for the treatment of headaches, migraines, chronic pain, pelvic misalignment, chronic hyperventilation, and whiplash associated disorder.

Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation treatments focus on the mobility of the internal organs (viscera). Subtle palpation and a strong anatomical understanding of the tissue sensitivity, location and shape, function, interaction with surrounding structures, and proper vitality of each viscera are essential when addressing the organs. By invoking Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therpay principles, Visceral Manipulation therapists are able to locate the organ, understand any possible dis-ease, adhesion or holding pattern of the organ, and work to restore it to optimal health. The connnective tissue/fascia that encompasses each organ also become the framework (stroma) of the organ itself. Because of the continuous nature of fascial tissue, it is not uncommon for adhesion or dysfunction withing the internal organs to present as pain, discomfort, or reduced mobility in a "unrelated" region of the fascial web of the body. Commonly treated conditions include heart burn, indigestion, general fatigue and sluggishness (liver), bladder or UTI chronic infections, and menstrual pain.
